Atom #1

The atom is a basic unit of matter with a central nucleus of positively charged protons surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons, which are bound to the nucleus by electromagnetic force.

This classic 2-dimensional model of the atom, became synonymous in mid-20th century US with all that is modern, futuristic, and fantastic in the scientific cultural frenzy of the culminating space race.

The electron cloud of this atom is clear hammered glass, with a cathedral aqua glass nucleus, formed by soldering two identical crosses, one on top of the other but rotated to reveal this intricate classic design.

Camp Fire Copper

One dark night, when most people were all in bed…or whatever other stories you tell around the camp fire, it’s another form of fuel to fan those mesmerizing flames, as well as all of the logs you keep shifting around, and maybe a few whiskey bottles tossed in by morning.

The flames are a brilliant wispy red and orange, charring and roasting white opalescent glass marshmallows on brass rods, on top of streaky caramel brown logs.

Death Before Dishonor

The snake symbolizes, through the shedding of its skin, the renewal of life. As a tattoo design, the snake symbolizes power, both natural and supernatural, feminine power, fertility, regeneration and wisdom.

The knife or dagger represents ferocity, quickness, tenacity and death at the hands of another. As a weapon, the knife and dagger go back to the most ancient of times At its most primal level, the knife or dagger represents death and sacrifice.

This dualism in stained glass is as complex in texture and brilliant color as it is in symbolic interpretation. The olive green Cathedral glass of the serpent ripples around the steely blue opalescent dagger. The red underbelly of the snake and the bejeweled hilt of the dagger really pop against the darker colors of the snake and dagger.

Fisticuffs

Knuckle Tattoos are reserved for the most dedicatedly hard of the hard core afficianados. We love the stories behind people’s knuckle tats, and the acronyms they often stand for. Sometimes the devil on your shoulder is winning, other times the angel, or something like that.

This in-your-face window denizen is made of caucasian skin-toned opalescent glass. I specify caucasian here because simply describing it as skin-toned would be a narrow vision of what that may entail. I would be more than willing to re-create this with any skin tone glass available. This glass is opalescent and can be hung other places that aren’t necessarily backlit and still be visible, or add it to your new collection in the window. The letters are hand painted with heat bonded acrylic. We can also make you a custom set of knuckle tats that spells out anything that fits on eight digits or less.

Flaming Skulls

These hand painted brethren of fire and doom share a noble martyrdom of lives lived large, and gone out in a blaze of glory. They obviously stuck it through to the end, we just don’t know when nor what the circumstances of the beginning could have been.

The flames are a translucent red with a few white hot streaks that are brilliant with the sun behind it in the daylight, and just as dynamically awesome under incandescent lights at night. The skulls are an opal white glass hand painted with heat bonded acrylic.

Fleyeball

The understood meaning of the flying eyeball dates back to the Egyptians around 5000 years ago, symbolizing the eye in the sky, which knows all and sees all. It still remains an icon of the custom car culture and rat rod crowd, and was ressurected it into the flying eyeball we know of today, a la Von Dutch. A side note; Von Dutch may have modified the White Truck hood ornament design from the ’30s-’40s, which was a Globe with wings, into this ubiquitous image we now associate with all that is Kustom Kulture.

Many artist and tattooists were influenced by Von Dutch’s adaptation of this symbol, and Rick Griffin, the artist from the Psychedelic poster era of the ’60s was among them. Thanks to his world wide influence, we can see examples if this icon around the globe. Rick’s vision of the all-seeing eye was rooted in Christianity, that of God the father, who is always watching, judging, and smiting us unworthy wayward sinners.

This Bad Ass Glass winged eyeball doesn’t resemble either artist’s renditions, and is not even an adaptation of such, but you really can’t talk about the symbolism of this image without noting these influences. Our version bears wings of wispy translucent blue and magenta glass. The eyeball itself is opal white glass, hand painted with acrylic color that was specifically engineered to be baked permanently onto glass.

The Cougar

This cunning member of the cat family is admired for it’s stealth, swiftness, intelligence and strength, but also for the devoted attention it pays to its young. Elusive and territorial, the cougar is a perfect symbol for those who value their independence.

This design was inspired by Sailor Jerry tattoos, and can be personalized with your’s or your sweetie’s name, hand painted on the banner in a classic tattoo font with enamel paint.

The gun metal grey opalescent glass was an obvious choice for this cat, with an opaque white banner and lavender petals, and red cathedral glass that really glows in the sunlight.

Vulture Bait

The phrase Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as “Remember you will die,” and has a tradition in art that dates back to antiquity. Many versions of this theme exist in the artistic genre of still life, and includes many symbols of mortality, whether obvious ones like skulls, winged skulls, skeletons, or more subtle ones, like a insects crawling on fruit (or not so subtle, like this vulture hulking over a human skull). The most common symbolic use of the skull is as a representation of death and mortality. The human brain has a specific region for recognizing faces, and cannot separate the image of the human skull from the familiar human face. Because of this, both the death and the now past life of the skull are symbolized.

The wings of this vulture is a gorgeous striation of black, purple, and white opalescent glass, that glows bright shades of violet in the sun, and stands out just as visibly at night, although more starkly black and white, in front of the incandescent indoor lighting. The skull is a White opal glass, and is hand painted with acrylic paint which is heat fused onto the surface of the glass. The vulture head and neck a vibrant opal red.
